Arguably the most controversial subject related to deer population management is the use of sharpshooters. Eccologix approach is simple; sharpshooting is a short-term solution to a long-term problem. Sharpshooting is only one tool in the myriad of available methods to reduce surplus deer populations. We recommend sharpshooting only after the community has explored all of the legally approved non-lethal and lethal alternatives to minimize deer conflicts, and the consensus of the community supports the removal of deer by such a method. Eccologix recommends a thorough exploration of all of the management tools available to your community before deciding on the best option. Sharpshooting can be effective but it utilizes techniques and equipment that require a commitment from the community to rapidly depopulate deer in a manner which can be controversial. Sharpshooting works best when it is combined with a controlled recreational archery hunting program; each compliments the other in order to reach the management goals. Stakeholders from consumptive and non-consumptive resource user groups can be opposed to the use of sharpshooters to reduce deer populations for a number of reasons. Eccologix recommends that your community publicly explore the use of certified sharpshooters by bringing the meetings out to the township buildings and into the neighborhoods where it will be applied. Allow your residents to observe a professional presentation from our wildlife management division and receive relevant information first-hand. Have them question the qualifications of our nationally certified sharpshooters and decide for themselves if this is a viable option for your community. There is not another company or agency that will offer this unique opportunity to investigate the option in such an open manner.
